Verbos: irregular yo form
In this lesson, you'll learn about verbs that undergo a spelling change in only the yo form. You can think of these irregular yo verbs as being divided into 3 categories:
-go verbs
Here are some common verbs that add a g or ig, so they end in -go:
hacer hago
do/make I do/make
tener tengo
have I have
venir vengo
come I come
salir (de) salgo (de)
leave I leave
poner pongo
put I put
oír oigo
hear I hear
decir digo
say I say
caer(se) me caigo
fall I fall
traer traigo
bring I bring
-zco verbs
Verbs that end in -cer or -cir will add in a -z in the yo form, so they'll end in -zco:
conocer conozco
know I know (a person or a place)
conducir conduzco
drive I drive
traducir traduzco
translate I translateother verbs
Here are other verbs that have unique yo forms:
saber sé
know I know (a fact or a skill)
caber quepo
fit I fit
ver veo
see I see
Note: Almost all the verbs are completely regular outside of the yo form. Some examples are below.
Note: The stem-changing verbs are conjugated normally outside of the yo form. See the three stem-changing verbs, below.
Note: The one verb that is conjugated irregularly outside of the yo form is oír. See its conjugations below.
