Los Verbos Verbs
Verbs are action words. To run, jump, play, or to read, sleep, or eat. If you're doing something, what you're doing is called a verb.
Let's look at three common actions: hablar, comer y vivir.
In Spanish, infinitive verbs end in -ar, -er, or -ir.
Examples
hablar
to talk
comer
to eat
vivir
to live
To use a verb with a subject, you conjugate it. You take off the -ar, -er, or -ir ending, and add a different ending.
For example, to say I talk, I eat or I live, take off the -ar, -er, or -ir and add -o.
hablo
I talk
como
I eat
vivo
I live
To say we talk, we eat, or we live, take off the -ar, -er, or -ir and add -amos, -emos or -imos.
hablamos
we talk
comemos
we eat
vivimos
we live
To say they talk, they eat, or they live, take off the -ar, -er, or -ir and add -an or -en.
hablan
they talk
comen
they eat
viven
