Verbos
Verbs A verb is a word that represents the action in a sentence.
Examples
Jacob plays at the park.
Caroline goes to school.
Not all actions are physically demanding. Some, like to sleep or to exist, don't take much effort. Let's look at the verb to be.
Examples
I am at a birthday party.
He is in a store.
You are in the classroom.
Above, you saw the infinitive (original) form of the verb: to be. Next you saw the 3 conjugations (versions): am, is, are.
It wouldn't be correct to say I are ... or He am ... or You is. The subject (who's doing the action) and the verb (action) must match. Matching the verb to the subject is called conjugating the verb.
In Spanish, there are 6 conjugations (versions) of each infinitive (original) verb. You always match the verb conjugation to the subject.
For example, if you say "I eat," "I sleep," "I talk," or "I [any verb]," the verb conjugation ends in -o or -oy. It doesn't matter if you consider yourself a boy or a girl.
If you say "we eat," "we sleep," "we talk," or "we [any verb]," the verb conjugation ends in -mos.
If you say "they eat," "they sleep," "they talk," or "they [any verb]," the verb conjugation ends in -n.
